چکیده

possibly involved in the regulation of sleep. The present study was designed to investigate the role of brain monoamines in the sleep disorder of MMC-dosed rats and attempts to elucidate the MMC-induced sleep disorder from the standpoint of changes in the concentrations of brain monoamines. MMC was administered orally to 12 Sprague-Dawley male rats 8 weeks age at a dose of 15 mg MMC/kg body weight/day for two consecutive days. Twelve rats served as a control group and received vehicle administration of sesame seed oil. On the 17th day after the first MMC dose, 12 rats (6 each from the experimental and the control groups) were decapitated in the morning (10:00-11:00) and the other 12 at night (23:00-24:00). The brain of each rat was removed

Effect of Methylmercury on Depression like Behavior in Rats: a Study Mitigated by Exogenous Vitamins

Depression is a heterogenous, multifaceted disorder with symptoms manifested at the psychological, behavioral and physiological level. Therefore, present study was designed as a model to analyze the long lasting effects of methylmercury chloride in male rats with a focus on depression like behavior. Male albino rats of Wistar strain were exposed orally to a dose of 2 mg/kg of methylmercury chlo...

Methylmercury Chloride Coaxed Oxidative Stress in Rats

The present experiment was designed to access the effects of Methylmercury chloride ( MeHgCl) on antioxidant status, protein concentration, lipid peroxidation and hydroperoxidation in brain parts, spinal cord, lung, heart and pancreas of rats. Twenty male Wistar rats (3 months old) were divided in saline controls (C) and MeHgCl-treated group (MMC). Treated rats were intoxicated with MMC ...

Interaction of alkylmercuric compounds with sodium selenite. I. Metabolism of ethylmercuric chloride administered alone and in combination with sodium selenite in rats.

The effect of sodium selenite administered intragastrically in repeated doses to rats receiving ethylmercuric chloride po in various repeated doses (0.25 or 2.5 mg Hg/kg) on the excretion, whole-body retention, and organ distribution of mercury was studied. Selenium was found to affect the distribution of ethylmercury among tissues and subcellular fractions of the kidneys and liver as well as i...

Caffeine attenuates paradoxical sleep deprivation induced- memory impairment during paradoxical sleep windows in rats

There is considerable evidence to support the hypothesis of relationship between paradoxical sleep (PS) and learning–memory processing. It has been suggested that PS is important in memory retention at the specific time course called PS windows (PSW). The time of PSWs occurrence and duration of these PSWs following the training sessions and, the neurochemical nature of PSWs has not been well kn...
